Buyers Guide: Budget AMD-Based Gaming PC Configuration
At $500, this quarter's budget-oriented AMD-based gaming machine lives up to its title. AMD's processors don't have the performance crown right now, so the company uses excellent value to woo its customers. An Athlon II X3 450 wields three cores and a 3.2 GHz clock rate to serve our gaming purposes. A Radeon HD 6770 with 1 GB of GDDR5 memory delivers more performance than would have been possible with a Llano-based APU, too. Ample RAM, modest hard drive space, and a solid power supply value help keep the overall system price down. Rosewill's Challenger chassis offers plenty of room for upgrades, too, which is why we gave it a Recommended Buy award in 2010. A special congratulations to forum member lunyone for having his recommended build picked by the Tom's Hardware community this quarter!
