James Bond returned to North American cinemas in a huge way this weekend with Skyfall not only easily topping the box office, but also enjoying the biggest domestic debut ever for a Bond movie. (Its current worldwide total is a stellar $518.6 million.)
With its estimated $87.8 million gross, Skyfall made $20 million more than the opening of its predecessor, Quantum of Solace, and $40 million more than Die Another Day. It grossed $47 million more than the debut of Casino Royale, the first Daniel Craig outing as 007.
Disney's Wreck-It Ralph held strong for its second weekend, drooping to the No. 2 spot, while Steven Spielberg's acclaimed Lincoln wowed with $900,000 from just 11 screens in its limited NY/L.A. debut.
